Maryam strives to create a safe, nurturing, and collaborative space for you to explore and heal from past wounds and current stressors. You deserve to live a life where you are thriving, not merely surviving your circumstances, your history, or your symptoms. Maryam specializes in working with clients from multicultural backgrounds and understands the nuances of intersectionality and identity. She brings this to her work with trauma, treatment-resistant mood disorders, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Both clients and colleagues describe her as attuned, insightful, down-to-earth, and relatable.
In her work, She draws from trauma-focused psychotherapies rooted in attachment theory as well as mindfulness and skills-based interventions like ACT and DBT to help clients reconnect with their core selves and live the life they want. Clients who have felt stuck or frustrated with traditional cognitive-behavioral talk therapy enjoy her eclectic, person-centered approach to treatment that focuses on radical acceptance, compassion, and gaining insight into past and present experiences that shape your inner landscape. In the therapeutic relationship, you will feel heard and empowered.
Maryam brings a full toolbox to her work with clients. Prior to joining Congruent Counseling Services, Maryam worked at the Johns Hopkins Mood Disorders and Perinatal Mood Disorders clinics where she received in-depth training in treating trauma spectrum disorders, personality disorders, perinatal mental health disorders, and treatment-resistant mood disorders in both individual and group settings.
