Mike Dvorak achieved his master’s degree in social work at the University of Maryland School of Social Work and is certified as an addiction counselor through the National Board of Forensic Counselors. He began his professional career at the VA Maryland Health Care System in Baltimore where he initially worked in the Hospital Based Home Care Program and then the Health Care for Homeless Veterans program.
Mike maintained himself as a private practitioner within the Counseling Centers of Maryland and as Director of the Workplace Violence Management programs for the Workplace Trauma Center until August of 2008. He is a mental health professional for the Critical Incident Stress Management teams of Carroll County Maryland. He is an adjunct faculty at both the University of Maryland Baltimore County and McDaniel College Baccalaureate Social Work Programs where he helped develop a course on working with addictive personalities and teaches the course yearly. He has also taught at the Shady Grove Campus of UMBC’s Social Work program and at St. Mary’s Seminary in Roland Park where he taught an introductory course on Pastoral Theology/Counseling an introduction to seminary students.
He has co-written articles on the topic of workplace violence and has been interviewed for other publications. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the National Board of Addictions Counselors, and the International Critical Incident Foundation.
He is currently employed with the Department of Defense within the Employee Assistance Services, an internal EAP within the National Security Agency, offering individual, group, family and marital therapy, training, coaching and crisis management consultation, workshops on suicide prevention and marital preparation to military and civilian agency employees and is presently the program director for the agencies addiction support program.
On May 14, 2011, he was Ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church and was assigned to St. Joseph’s Parish in Sykesville and now serves at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Libertytown Maryland
