Becky Soper

Hi, I’m Becky! I’m a licensed graduate professional counselor (LGPC), having earned both a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a certificate in Trauma, Crisis, Grief and Loss from Hood College in Frederick, MD. I am also a registered yoga teacher (RYT 200) and have completed additional coursework in teaching trauma-sensitive yoga and meditation to both military and civilian populations. Prior to becoming a mental health counselor, I worked as a change management consultant for the Department of Defense for nearly two decades.

My clinical experience to date has involved working with individuals, couples and groups living with challenges associated with mood disorders, anxiety, depression, some personality disorders, post-traumatic stress and complex trauma, as well as substance misuse and other behavioral addictions/compulsive behaviors.

I enjoy working with individuals across the entire lifespan and from all walks of life. My approach is trauma-informed and rooted in psychodynamic-relational theory. I sometimes borrow techniques from other therapies as appropriate (e.g., ACT, CBT, DBT, narrative and other expressive therapies). Most importantly, I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential in cultivating personal growth, and I strive to create a therapeutic atmosphere that is collaborative, supportive, and non-judgmental that leaves you feeling connected, understood, and rejuvenated.

My clients have described me as warm, attentive, humorous, genuine, expressive, and direct. In my personal time, I enjoy spending time outdoors with friends, watercolor painting, running and fitness, traveling, volunteering in my community, and spoiling my senior cat, Shasta.
