Parental Counseling
Many of our parents find it helpful to have someone to consult; a parent guide (since you didn’t get one when the children were born).
Having a separate counselor for parents to consult can help them break difficult patterns that may not be helping their child. For example, a counselor for the parents may help to develop an appropriate behavioral plan or set appropriate limits for a child who is not following rules. This may be especially helpful for parents of kids with behavior problems in school or at home or with children abusing substances.
Congruent Counseling has the experience to help you help your children get better.
Parental Intervention
Negotiating Mental Health and Substance Health systems can be confusing and unclear, particularly if you have a child or teen who is difficult or refusing to change. Sometimes parents get stuck or get conflicting advice from professionals. A parent intervention may be helpful to clarify ideas and treatment goals: How to get your kids to buy in, what you can do differently to make things work better at home, how separated parents can come together, etc. This Consultation is held with our Director Mark Donovan, LCPC, LCADC. Mark has been working with kids and teens for over 25 years. He has experience with difficult teens who refuse to do what is needed as well as helpful supportive teens who may just need more or different treatments. Call us if we can be of help.
